College Applications for International Students
Support for applicants outside the United States who are applying to US colleges, from transcripts and curricula to English proficiency tests.

How the application differs
International applicants usually apply through the same Common App as US applicants, and essays and recommendations are written in English. The differences are mostly in documents: transcripts, curriculum details, and proof of English proficiency. Requirements vary by college, so each college’s international applicants page is the source to check.
Transcripts and curriculum
Colleges ask for an official transcript from the applicant’s school. Documents that are not in English generally need an official English translation, and some colleges ask for the grading scale. Some colleges say applicants should report grades as they appear on the transcript, without converting them. Applicants following IB, A-level, national, or other curricula can usually describe their courses through the transcript and the school report.
English proficiency
Colleges typically ask applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not studied in English, to submit a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score. Accepted tests, minimum scores, and exemptions differ by college, and scores are usually valid for two years. Some colleges waive the requirement for applicants who study in English-medium schools.
Testing and deadlines
SAT and ACT policies vary by college, and international applicants follow the same early and regular rounds as everyone else. Planning tests early leaves time to retake them. We do not provide visa or immigration advice.
How we work with applicants on it
We help international applicants build a college list, plan test dates, and prepare the personal statement and activities list so they explain their context clearly to a US reader. Applicants should read each college’s international page, and we help them keep track of what each one needs.
What to Expect
In a free consultation, we review the applicant’s school, curriculum, goals, and school list. International application work then follows three steps.

Documents & Curriculum
We list what each college needs: transcripts, translations, curriculum details, and school reports.
Tests & Timeline
We plan English proficiency tests and any other tests so there is time to retake them if needed.
Essays & Activities
We help the applicant explain their context clearly to a US reader in the essays and activities list.
A near-peer advisor on every application
Every applicant works closely with a near-peer advisor, a recent graduate of a top university who has been through the process. Before anything is submitted, it goes through review by our senior team. Meet our advisors, see where our students have been admitted on the results page, or read the FAQ.
